PET STUFF

The Best Breed For You

The decision to bring a new dog or cat into your home is one that should be taken seriously. All to often, well meaning families purchase or adopt animals to find out that the new pets are not what they expected, they are not compatible with their lifestyles, or require more care than originally thought. At best this results in animals that are relinquished to shelters, or at worst animals who are abandoned or abused.

Questions to ask yourself before getting a pet:

  • How much space do I have indoors and outside?
  • How much maintenance will the dog or cat require?
  • How much time and energy do I have everyday to play and exercise my pet?

Obesity In Pets

Obesity is an extremely common problem and as in the human, can be detrimental to the health of the cat or dog. The overweight pet has many added stresses upon it's body and is at risk of diabetes, liver problems, joint pain and other diseases. The majority of cases of obesity are related to simple over feeding often couple with lack of exercise.

Tips to a healthy pet:

  • Correct Diet
  • Exercise
  • Owner commitment to the pets weight loss
  • Separate the pet while you are eating
  • Feed all meals and treats only in the pets food bowl
  • Reduce snacks or treats
  • Provide non food related attention

Loss Of A Pet

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs caring him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long ago from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge...together.
